There are a maximum of six sections at each grade level with roughly 110 students per grade. This provides for a teacher-student ratio of 1:10 in the lower grades. From Grade 6 onwards, classes normally have 20 students with one teacher per section, but students have about seven different teachers; one for each subject.
We have a team of Special Educators who run our Student Success Programme (SSP), which supports the needs of students with differing learning abilities and needs. However, students with special learning needs are only admitted into the SSP when we are certain that their needs can be met by our staff.
The admissions assessments are in English and Math, and a writing sample is collected during the assessment. For IB Diploma candidates, there is also an assessment for each of the sciences. We have students who come from different curriculums, both national and international. The assessments are largely skill based and test for ability levels expected in the grade that the student is applying for. No special preparation, beyond a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast, is required or suggested for the admissions assessments.
Homework and reading to be done at home are assigned, but must be meaningful and age-appropriate. Therefore, from Grade 2, students will receive homework that helps them to build their self-management, mathematics and literacy skills. As students matriculate to the higher grades, the amount of homework assigned increases appropriately.
